PROJECTS
With the overly generous community, and they're tireless labors, Our Community Place has been improved from a what was basically shell to a livable, usable building. Millions of thanks to all those who've made it possible. And the adventure continues!
Phase I
The first phase of improvements to the buildings and grounds ended officially when we received our occupancy permit from the city on August 18, 2008. The list of projects that involved to get to that point is so enormous it may not bear repeating. Suffice it to say that the building was four walls and little else, now it takes it stands proudly among the more prominent edifices in North Harrisonburg, not only serving the public day-to-day, but ready to do much more.
Phase II
The current list of improvement projects we're hoping to kick off soon include:
- Deck (20x30 – West side of building)
- Can lights in front room (for less direct lighting)
- Ceiling Fans
- Storage in ceiling above foyer
- Floor tile – front room and back area
- Hanging electricity in kitchen
- Walk-in refrigerator and freezer
- Attractive trash/recycling scene
- Recycling education center
- Black's Run education sign
- Carpet in meeting room
- Shower/Washer and Dryer in utility room
- Storage area on back slab (south side)
- Roof for oil tank
- Hanging pots and pan rack in kitchen
- Office command center glass booth
Volunteers, highly-skilled and otherwise, are much in need to tackle this list and continue to improve the quality of service we can provide at Our Community Place. If you're interested please send us and e-mail, or call us on 540/442-7727.
