Free Food for All Soup Kitchen - Mondays at Noon

Kate Serves MultitudesEvery Monday at Noon at the OCP: Free for anyone in the world.  This is a cooperative community meal open to participation by all.  We start cooking at 10am, eat family-style at noon, and clean up til 2.  Come on down for a great meal and a fun time, not to mention horseshoes and volleyball.  Soup Kitchen will no longer be held at the Little Grill (starting July 7, 2008).  See photos here of the last one at Little Grill and at Flickr for the first one at OCP.

Holiday Craft Nights - Thursdays 11/13 - 12/18 (not Thanksgiving)

Back for the 8th year in a row.  Come on out and learn a craft from a fellow community member, and save yourself a trip to the shopping center this holiday season.  There is no charge for attendance.  This is not a fund-raiser.  Attendees will be informed of the cost of materials and invited to make a donation if they are able.  Crafts are made to be taken home regardless.  Past

Past craft nights have included:  card making, wreath making, cookies-in-a-jar, kids bath towels, hot decorative vinegar, decorated gift boxes, design-your-own-t-shirt, hemp jewelry, and ginger bread houses to name a few.

Friends of OCP - February 2, 2009

Four times a year OCP hosts a special dinner for our extended family of friends, supporters, and affiliate organizations.  Our next meeting will be Monday November 3rd starting at  6pm.  Come share a great Soup Kitchen style meal, check out the building, catch up on what's been happening with the board, with the day to day operations and with our affiliate organizations.  Bring something only if its easy and you really want to - dinner will be provided.

Grand Opening! - April 6th, 2009

Come on out on April 6th and help us celebrate almost a decade of planning, working and believing toward the OCP.  Even though we have already our Certificate of Occupancy, we decided to wait until Spring so that we can do it up right with a big tent, lots of great food, some speeches and some pats on the back.

OCP Summer Lawn Jam –  June 27th, 2009

Come out for a full day of music, food, dancing, raffle, crafts, giant musical chairs, water balloon toss, tie-dying, volleyball, horse shoes, auction, and don't forget the free yard sale! Start the summer off right! Late in June, Our Community Place holds its Summer Lawn Jam! Admission is free! Music is free! Food is free! Donations go toward OCP. This is a family friendly event.

Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Festival – July 25, 2009

How can you get some exercise, support a local non-profit, and experience some of the most beautiful countryside in America?  The 18th Annual Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Festival!  This Bike Fest offers a wide variety of options for both the beginner and the more experienced rider.  Rides range from the 5-mile family-friendly ride through downtown Harrisonburg to the 100 mile Century Ride over the rolling roads of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley.  Registration includes great food, rest stops, ride maps, mechanical support, drinks, shower facilities . . and . . a Bike Fest t-shirt!  The rides start and finish at Our Community Place.  Registration involves a suggested donation of $20, which is tax-deductible.  It goes up to $25 after July 15th.  All proceeds support Our Community Place and The Free Food For All Soup Kitchen.

Maps of the rides together with cue sheets are now available at the Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition.  And we've got recommended lodging (http://www.ourcommunityplace.net/lodging/) for you.  The Shenandoah Bicycle Company has tossed in 10% off parts and accessories, while Clementine's Cafe offers free dessert to riders--while televizing the final stage of the Tour de France downstairs.
